How to detect breast cancer

Early detection of breast cancer can significantly reduce the risk of death. There are three methods for detection of breast cancer:

* Consideration of palpation of the breast: all women should carry out this examination every month, always at the same time of the menstrual cycle. Most medical centers have brochures available to the public with step-by-step illustrated instructions on how to do this test.

* Clinical breast examination: the doctor is advised to conduct a clinical breast exam every year, from 40 to 49 years of age of the patients. (more…)

Breast cancer is a disease that can develop in one breast or both, is the most common cancer in women, are diagnosed more than 746,000 cases per year worldwide. Men may also suffer from breast cancer, but the incidence is very low.

Advanced age is one of the major risk factors: in effect, over 80 percent of breast cancers occur in women over 50 years of age. Other significant risk factors include:

* Early start of menstruation before 12 years of age.

Pomegranates to prevent breast cancer

Scientists at the cancer center City of Hope in California (USA) have discovered a chemical component in the shells that may decrease the risk of developing breast cancer positive for estrogen receptors, according to the results of his research papers appearing in the journal Cancer Prevention Research.

Specifically, these researchers have discovered ten natural compounds of this fruit could block aromatase, an enzyme that converts androgen into estrogen and play a “key role” in these tumors, explained Shiuan Chen, author of the research . (more…)

Is it useful to chemotherapy for breast cancer?

London (EFE) .- A group of scientists has developed a genetic test that can predict in which cases would be effective chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer patients, publishes the medical journal The Lancet.

After analyzing 829 genes in breast cancer cells, the scientific team identified six genes that predict the efficacy, as the case may have anti-cancer drugs, especially paclitaxel.

The team of scientists has revealed which genes or by absence or by failure, would override the properties of paclitaxel at the time of attack breast cancer cells. (more…)
