The history of goji berries goes back to about 2,000 years ago in Tibet, Korea and Japan, these berries were used by the seventh-century Tang dynasty and Ming dynasty of the sixteenth century for medicinal purposes.

Goji berries derived from two shrub species in the Solanaceae family close together: Lycium barbarum and Lycium chinense, thanks to this fact we can know clearly that the source of goji berries spread from southeastern Europe to Southeast Asia.

The Goji berry (pronounced Goyi) is a dried fruit of a deep red color, about the size of a raisin and a flavor that could resemble a cross between cranberry and cherry. (more…)
